The ANIO 2025 special GP Kausal Award for a fellow doing excellence in Nephrology for 2025 goes to Dr. Krishna Mohita Kuruvada.
Dr. Krishna Mohita Kuruvada, M.B.B.S., is an emerging leader in nephrology whose clinical insight, academic rigor, and compassion for patients have already distinguished her among the next generation of kidney specialists. She currently serves as a Nephrology Fellow at Montefiore/Albert Einstein College of Medicine (2023–2025) and currently doing an advanced Galdi Glomerular Diseases and Onconephrology Fellowship at the Northwell Health(2025–2026).
Dr. Kuruvada’s scholarly productivity is exceptional for a trainee. She has authored original publications in Kidney360—including a 2024 study on acute kidney injury in HIV—and in the Journal of Clinical Hypertension on left-ventricular dysfunction in ankylosing spondylitis, a meta-analysis that bridged cardiovascular and renal disciplines. She has presented her work at major national meetings, including ASN Kidney Week 2024 and the CHEST Annual Meeting 2023, and has received multiple awards for her research at both regional and national American College of Physicians (ACP) competitions. During her subspecialty fellowship, she has completed several case reports and review manuscripts currently under journal review. She is currently actively engaged in a multicenter project on anti-nephrin–related nephropathy and cancer-related thrombotic microangiopathy, reflecting her commitment to translational and collaborative research.
Beyond research, Dr. Kuruvada has demonstrated a remarkable aptitude for medical education and innovation. At the University of Maryland, during her internal medicine residency, she designed and implemented a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) curriculum for internal-medicine residents and led simulation-based acute-care training initiatives, integrating technology and experiential learning to enhance clinical decision-making. During her fellowship training, she has continued this educational leadership—teaching glomerular disease and onconephrology topics to nephrology fellows and co-moderating monthly online “GN Chats,” a collaborative platform for discussing complex glomerular cases. Equally committed to community service, Dr. Kuruvada volunteered at rural health and pediatric camps, participated in Pulse Polio Immunization campaigns, and worked in underserved communities to deliver preventive and primary care in India.
Dr. Kuruvada embodies Dr. GP Kaushal’s commitment to an eager, curious, and thoughtful approach to her practice in nephrology, and ANIO has no doubt that following in Dr Kaushal’s footsteps, Dr. Kuruvada will make important contributions to our field.
ANIO congratulates Dr. Kuruvada!
