This year the ANIO Award for Clinical Excellence goes to Dr. Rimda Wanchoo. Dr. Rimda Wanchoo is a Professor of Medicine at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine and a full-time nephrologist at Northwell Health, New York. She earned her medical degree from India, completed her residency at St. Barnabas Medical Center in New Jersey, and pursued a fellowship in nephrology at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell. Over the last decade at Northwell, she has taken on leadership roles, including Director of Quality for the Division of Kidney Diseases and Hypertension and Medical Director of the health system’s largest joint venture dialysis unit.
Dr. Wanchoo is a leading expert in Onconephrology, specializing in the treatment of cancer-related kidney diseases. A pioneering woman in this emerging field, she is one of the founding members of the American Society of Onconephrology (ASON). Her extensive scholarly work includes numerous publications and presentations at both national and international levels. She also enjoys taking care of patients with glomerular diseases and ESKD. Dr. Wanchoo’s research focuses on renal toxicities associated with novel cancer therapies, as well as the impact of immunotherapy on kidney function and stem cell transplantation. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for both the Journal of Onconephrology (JON) and the Clinical Kidney Journal (CKJ).
Widely regarded by her peers as a master clinician and highly skilled nephrologist, Dr. Wanchoo is also praised by her patients for her compassionate bedside manner and sharp clinical judgment. Dedicated to education, she actively mentors fellows and residents in both general nephrology and advanced Onconephrology fellowships at Northwell Health. Outside of her professional life, Dr. Wanchoo cherishes time spent with family and friends, enjoys hiking, and exercising, and is an avid fan of movies and television.
