ANIO-Panoramic Health training Program Phase 1 Observers

The ANIO–Panoramic Health Training Program is designed to foster a bilateral exchange between U.S. and South Asian nephrologists, enhancing clinical expertise and cross-cultural understanding of diverse practice environments. Structured as a four-week rotation, the program tailors experiences to each trainee’s interests.

In the United States, due to medicolegal restrictions, participation is limited to observerships, while in South Asia, supervised hands-on clinical training may be permitted, depending on local regulations.

Phase I of the initiative brings South Asian trainees to the U.S., while Phase II will expand the exchange to include U.S. trainees visiting academic and clinical sites across India. Initial training centers are affiliated with members of the ANIO Executive Committee, with plans to broaden participation to additional academic institutions and leading private practice nephrologists.

Each trainee is expected to produce a tangible deliverable—such as developing an educational module, submitting a case-based abstract, or writing a review article—to ensure personal growth and broader dissemination of knowledge. Selection is based on curriculum vitae, statement of intent, academic transcripts, and letters of recommendation, with applications evaluated on leadership potential, feasibility, and impact.

This year, three outstanding nephrologists completed observerships in the U.S. under this initiative:

  • Dr. Krupa Chokshi, completed her MBBS at Grant Medical College and JJ Group of Hospitals, Mumbai. She completed her Nephrology training in Apollo Hospitals in Mumbai and is currently affiliated with Apollo Hospital, Navi Mumbai. She completed her observership at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio), specializing in Renal Transplantation under Dr. Amit Govil and his team.
  • Dr. Anant Pilawan, Assistant Professor of Medicine at CMC Vellore, Tamil Nadu, and former faculty at AIIMS Nagpur and GMCH Nagpur, also completed his observership at the University of Cincinnati (Ohio), training in Renal Transplantation under Dr. Amit Govil and his team.

Dr. Shreya Jain, a nephrologist who recently completed her DM in Nephrology at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, following her MD in Internal Medicine and MBBS from Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. She completed her observership at Northwell Health, focusing on Onconephrology, Glomerular Diseases, and Kidney Transplantation under the mentorship of Dr. Kenar Jhaveri, Dr. Nupur Uppal, and their team.
